Monday after the second Wednesday in December of presidential election years is set (3 U.S.C. §7) as the date on which the electors meet and vote. In 2020, the meeting is on December 14. On January 6, or another date set by law, the Senate and House of Representatives assemble at 1:00 p.m.in a joint session at the Capitol, in the House chamber, to count the electoral votes and declare the results(3 U.S.C. §15).

Well, I can only speak for myself. Personally, when I read the decision logic, I thought I was betting on who would become the next president of the United States. I still think that is the correct interpretation, and I daresay that's exactly what most of us believed we were betting on. Regarding timing - who can say for sure? This has already been such a fiasco. All I'm saying is that it's not at all outside the realm of imagination that we could be kept waiting into 2021.

@garbagebaby but these states would be recounting consecutively not one after the other, so presume it takes 37 days for each state and that takes us up to the 15th of December 2020, with time up to and not including 1st January 2020. From what I've seen an "election win" is legally defined by an electoral vote outcome, but maybe there's legal eagle out there that can interpret this differently.

You don't imagine until 2021? Why not? Bush VS Gore took 37 days for its lawsuits to unfurl and that was only concerning one state. I think it is incredibly likely that the legal mess from this extends into January and that, regardless of what the media says about it, nobody is actually the "president elect" until close to Jan 20th itself.

@garbagebaby the issue really is about an electoral win though, the belief is the ballot fraud impacted predicted electoral vote outcomes, so if they recount and the numbers change that's all that matters. I'm not sure how long a court case could run regarding which ballots are considered legal or illegal though, I don't imagine until 2021.

The decision logic doesn't actually say "electoral win" anywhere. It's whether or not he will "win re-election." IMO the spirit of the thing is pretty clear. All I'm saying is that it's going to look very, very bad for this site's reputation if Trump is ultimately president for the next four years but the Biden betters have already walked away with all the money.

@Avalon Georgia's secretary of state has already announced recount https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/video/2020/nov/06/there-will-be-a-recount-in-georgia-announces-secretary-of-state- I won't contest an electoral win in 2020 because that's fair clarity, but that necessitates including recounts up to electoral vote day.

@Avalon I think the decision logic is pretty clear about this, one of the examples it gives is: "Losing the general election in 2020" It's clear that the spirit of this is that the best is on whether he won or lost the general election which occurred in the year 2020, not that it has to happen by the end of 2020. This is just how American elections work - court cases can quite literally change the results post-hoc as vote counting rules are changed, etc. (continued in second comment)

@donuthole there is an intention to recount, however, nothing has been firmly committed as of yet as most states are not done the initial count. Most states have rules around when a recount can be triggered (i.e. when total spread is within 0.5-1%). Depending on the final initial count, some states may not be eligible for recount. It will depend on which are, and if recounting them can change the outcome, within 2020 - that is how we will interpret and close this market.

Per the bet's decision logic, Trump must be re-elected. Court cases are not 'electoral' wins. Secondly, this must happen in 2020. Neither of which will be true if this goes to the SCOTUS. Likewise, in the logic, losing the 'general election' is specified as a condition for loss. We would hold that same logic toward a similarly contested Trump win if challenged by the Democratic party.

Thank you Avalaon. Could you please clarify further - what do you mean by "confirmed" and "moot"? Recounts and legal challenges are by definition not moot until they have been completed. Court cases can still alter the results of the election after that point, as happened in the year 2000 (SCOTUS essentially decided the election). As such, the fairest thing to do is to wait until absolute proof of the winner of the election - i.e. the swear-in date.

Hello everyone - please remain calm as we are not planning on settling these outcomes just yet due to all the turbulence. These props can stay open for another week or so until the count is fully complete and a more certain picture is visible. As others have said, the recounts and legal challenges are moot if Biden is confirmed in AZ, NV, and GA so we expect to resolve this sooner than Jan 20th regardless. Note also that Trump conceding is irrelevant to whether he won/lost the election.

Blackspiody you're being a real jerk and there's just no call for it. In the year 2000, the recount for ONE state took 37 days. That was only twenty years ago, and it was far less contested than this election. It's only fair that we wait until the results are fully in. The media doesn't get to wave a magic wand and decide who the president is. Do the right thing, Betmoose. Lock this bet until a concession from one candidate OR the next president is actually sworn in on Jan 20th.

Yes as soon as certified by state governments and electoral colleges i have not problem whatsoever, but if its still going and counting there is no way this can be settled. Only the news said he “won”, really said projected winner. As soon they say “officially certified president” all can be done.

@Kodo done. I have 2 lawyers ready in case prematured resolution is approved by Betmoose. I'm gonna join the Telegram group also. In such a complex situation for @BetMoose and bettors they should maybe cancel all votes related to this election if a fraud is approved by the SCOTUS , notwithstanding if Trump wons. (except if QFS codes allow to restore the integrity of ballots) THIS is fairness for both sides.
