Will Putin Run for Reelection?

The incumbent, President Vladimir Putin, is eligible to seek re-election for a second consecutive term, but has not yet confirmed that he will do this. Think he will?

In September 2017, citing sources in the Kremlin, Russian media reported that Putin would announce his candidacy and register as late as possible, and that this would take place in two stages: first, in November 2017 he will announce that he is willing to run, and then by 6 January 2018 (the date when registration of candidates ends) the procedures will be carried out which will enable Putin to run as an independent.
