Description

After President-elect Donald Trump publicly stated his intention to replace Wray with Kash Patel, FBI Director Christopher Wray announced his resignation, effective on or before the end of the Biden administration on January 20, 2025. This bet is on whether or not Christopher Wray 's resignation takes place before January 20, 2025 or before January 20, 2025.

Decision Logic

This bet will resolve to “Yes” if Christopher Wray ceases to be the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for any period of time between January 20, 2025, 12:01 AM ET (inclusive) and April 29, 2025, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, if Christopher Wray resignation takes effect before January 20, 2025 , 12:01, AM ET. this market will resolve to “No”.

The resolution source for this market will be the U.S. government, however a consensus of credible reporting will also suffice.

Im ok resolving this as a NO. But the button says "reported" and won't let me update result for a month.

Also this Polymarket market also went no, it asks the same question and he would've had to resign before midnight on the 20th for it to go no here too. So it's just a no. https://polymarket.com/event/will-trump-remove-fbi-director-christopher-wray/will-trump-remove-fbi-director-christopher-wray?tid=1737417009600 Betmoose can resolve this market early.

Good news, this is a straightforward no. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/20/us/politics/paul-abbate-fbi-director.html This article states that he resigned on Sunday, and his replacement took up the mantle on Sunday as well - impossible on midnight. The replacement then resigned the next day right before Trump got sworn in LOL.

@GarySpivey - we're confused with your request. Is the issue what happens at 12:00am exactly on Jan 20th? Unless you're in the same room, that's not a condition or outcome you have to worry about as news will likely be the following morning. We read this as 'before Jan 20th = No, after Jan 20th = yes'.

My understanding is that when government employee sends resignation letter to President which states his/her resignation will be "effective midnight on X date" those resignation letters are interpreted by government as taking place at the last theoretical moment of X date (as opposed to the first theoretical moment of X date). That's why I would say scenario (3) should resolve NO. But I can see why the way I wrote the rules is confusing. I am contacting Admin to try to proactively resolve.

Good question. If the resolution of this bet was up to me (which it isn't) I would resolve this in the following ways: (1) resignation confirmed to be "effective January 20, 2025" = resolution in favor of YES. (2) resignation confirmed to be "effective at 12:00AM January 20, 2025" = resolution in favor of NO. (3) resignation confirmed to be "effective at midnight January 20, 2025" = resolution in favor of YES.

Just to confirm, if he resigns at exactly midnight on January 20th, meaning the very moment the clock rolls over from the 19th to the 20th, it's a NO, right? After all, 12:00 AM is before 12:01 AM...

Right. The bet is on when Wray when that resignation happens. If he resigns before Jan 20, "No" wins, if it happens on or after Jan 20 "Yes" wins.
