TOKYO 2020 CANCELLED LAST MINUTE?

-A petition to cancel the Tokyo games got over 200K signatures in 2 days.
-There will be no foreign spectators, domestic not decided
-Only 1% of the JP pop. has been vaccinated for COVID19.

-Late April a third state of emergency for significant portions of the country declared.
-Olympic officials said they need 10K medical workers to staff the games. Upsetting JP medical workers who are already being overwhelmed.
- In April a JP Govt official ( Toshihiro Nikai) said games could still be cancelled due to COVID-19.
-This is not the first time Japan Games were cancelled. In 1940 the summer & winter games were both to be held in JP but do to WWII did not.

-It's still being called Tokyo 2020
-Games scheduled July 23-Aug. 8
