Self Pardon? Resign?

• It has been reported that Trump has asked about pardoning himself.

• The law doesn’t explicitly state that he can or cannot do so, legal experts have said it’s unlikely, and in a 1974 memo from the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel wrote that “the president cannot pardon himself.”

• Without a federal pardon, it is almost guaranteed that Trump will spend much of the coming years mired in federal cases.

• Trump must obtain a pardon for federal offenses, which he can only achieve if he resigns the presidency early and is granted a pardon by Pence.
